First wedding of 2012! | Hutchinson, Kansas

The time has come and my first wedding of 2012 is here! I’m definitely excited to begin the year strong and rock out Adam and Diana’s wedding. Back in November, I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement and had a blast! Without further ado, I give you soon to be Mr. and Mrs Henderson!

KSU vs. KU 2/13/2012 | Manhattan, Kansas

Ever want to do something, whether it be skydiving, traveling abroad or flying a plane? Well shooting a Kansas State University Basketball game WAS on my list. Better yet, it was a KSU vs. KU and it was being hosted in Manhattan. About 10:43am in the morning, I got the call, a friend and fellow photographer Shari Brown had sprained her ankle and needed help covering the game for her media outlet. I literally jumped at the chance to shoot a KSU basketball game, let alone one of the biggest games of the year! Here are images from the game!

Where are you located?

Kansas City Metropolitan, Atlanta, Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan.

How long have you been playing the saxophone?

Hmm….I think I became serious about the saxophone almost 9 years ago;It really articulates my creativity, musical expressions and voice, but I’ve been playing musical instruments since I about 12 so about 15 years. I’ve always loved learning new instruments, believe it or not I started out on the trumpet.

What got you started playing the saxophone?

Let’s see…. I’ve always loved the sound of a smooth sax. As a child I would listen to songs like Mister Magic by Grover Washington. Songbird by Kenny G. Breezin’ by George Benson. After Hours by Ronny Jordan. Najee’s Sweet Love and Secret Admirer. Vernard Johnson’s Amazing Grace. These are the songs I looked forward to hearing on the Kansas City local smooth jazz radio station 106.5 the City, after school while all my other friends where watching Power Rangers, cartoons, playing sports, talking about the newest r&b and rap song. I preferred the relaxing, soulful sounds of Smooth jazz my peers always thought that was kind of weird. Maybe it was but I loved it!

What type of events do you play at?

You can find me playing at Weddings, Celebrations, Festivals, Concerts, Churches, Special Occasions, Ministry engagements, etc..

Who inspires you?

God, Jesus, My Dad a fellow musician lead guitarist, Merlon Devine, Dave Koz, Stevie Wonder, Najee, George Benson, Kirk Whalum, Michael Jackson, Vernard Johnson (Kansas City legendary Saxophonist), Kenny G, Spyro Gyra, Ronnie Laws, Ben Tankard, Kirk Franklin, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, too many to name.

What’s makes you different from any other saxophonist?

I believe this is a call and gift which God has place on my life and I play from a place that alot of people rarely go and that’s the heart and soul. I also have a rare blend of Gospel and NeoSoul that is rarely found in the jazz world but I’m really not one to toot my own horn.Ok…that was corny right? Just kidding.

What are your most requested songs?

Donna Lee by Charlie Parker, God of Wonder by Third day, Nobody Greater by Vashawn Mitchell, How Great is Our God, Amazing Grace by JahVelle Rhone.
